The downside of "standard" JF MAT files is that they don't handle matches with gaps very well (Transcriptions with incomplete data usually are the cause). XG extended the MAT file to support a mechanism to handle this, but those files will generally not be handled properly in other bots, especially older ones (Snowie/JellyFish, and even GNUBG).

I mention this only as a caveat that not all MAT files conform to the original format.
