Playing without a clock

I'm curious as to whether you have some sense of how much time you take when you play without a clock? To put it another way, what clock settings would you need in order to (almost) never time out?

Coming from a chess background, I find the typical backgammon clock settings to be rather brisk. For example, normal time controls at chess provide plenty of time for you to hand-record your game. That doesn't seem to be the case in backgammon.
