Hand recording while on the clock

I have recorded somewhere in the rhelm of 60-80 matches while using a clock with standard 2/12 settings. Only once have I fallen into serious time trouble. In that match I was down 6-0 crawford and came back to win 7-6. At the start of the DMP game I had 16 seconds left and handed off the recording to Bagai who was watching the match. In the end I had just 4 seconds left on my clock. It was one of the most exilierating experiences of my BG playing career. My heart was throbbing. I was soooo f--king nervous. But it was something I will never forget. Only one other time have I fallen under 2 minutes reserve.
For me hand recording is actually easier with a clock. The single set of dice and use of plungers gives a flow to the process. Many of my opponents have given me the courtesy of waiting to hit their clock (with their delay running) while I finished hand recording their move. As I finish and reach for the dice they would then hit the clock. In the one instance where my time ran short I do not believe I was given that courtesy. I am not knocking my opponent as this was the first weeekend in which I tried hand recorded matches while on the clock and neither myself nor my opponent thought of it.
Some say I risk playing poorly or too quickly. I have found the opposite is true. My PR is generally in the 5.2 - 5.4 range on average. But the PR of my hand recorded matches is in the 4.5 range with a median of just under 4.0. I believe this is because I am generally a fast player and hand recording actually slows me down. I am often taking a 2nd or 3rd glance of the board as I transcribe my play.
