Hi Chuck, here's the summary, you can follow the chain of links Michael posted for the details :-)
DBgF introduced a title system, a little over a year ago.
The titles are:
IM (requires 1 norm)
GM (requires 4 norms, from at least two categories)
SGM (requires 8 norms, including one from each category)
The norms can be:
Championship norm: Winning one of the big tournaments, such as World Championships, Nordic Open or Danish Championships, or coming 2nd 3 times.
Ranking norm: Achieving over 1300 rating points within DBgF, which happens sometimes to the number one ranked player (I think 8 people have been over 1300 in the history of DBgF).
Rating/Experience norm: Sustained high rating (played a total of 1200 EXP over a certain rating level).
Bot norm: Within a year in the best flight of the big tournaments, having played 5 matches to no less than 13 points at a PR of less than 3.5 (tough XGR++ one pass settings).
For a match to be approved towards a bot norm, it MUST have been clocked.
---
Until now, 3 players have achieved the first bot norm, and another 2-5 players are very close. Around 20 players have got at least one match approved.
Karsten Bredahl and Freddie Noer have both got a couple of matches approved towards their 2nd bot norm, for which you have to play 2.x 5 times, in those long tournament matches.
This initiative picked up slowly, but are now starting to spread. More and more players are recording their matches, and all of those matches are played with a clock (2/12).
Two notable matches have been rejected, because they were not played clocked to the end (ie. defect clock during the match): Freddie Noer vs Marc Olsen at 2.4 vs. 3.1, and Pia Jeppesen playing at 3.4. Both were 17 point matches (keep in mind, that we are using a tough XG setting).
