The 3 is forced and so with the 1 I'd play 2/1*. White's board isn't made yet and hitting now can disrupt that process. If Blue doesn't do something to slow White down then her board can get really good pretty quickly. In the meantime hitting also gives Blue a chance to solidify his own board. Getting hit back isn't that big of a deal since White's inner board is weak and Blue has now has two points and is way behind in the race anyway. Time to be aggressive.
