Jason in answer to your last post...clocks vs no clocks makes a substantial difference to a tournament director...without clocks, either the director or his staff must constantly be vigil to matches that re running slow , to potentially put a clock on them to finish within the needed time frame...As to Swiss vs elimination there are different demands for each , advantages and dis-advantages . with the Swiss format, which an overwhelming number of players seemed to enjoy, the #1 benefit is knowing when you will start your next match. You can plan a nap. workout, socialize, etc knowing you wont be called in for a match sooner than x time. If clocks were used in swiss format match length could be increased from 9 to 11 pts in a 2 hr period. But, some people feel you are playing too many matches...You do get better value as you can lose twice and still win the tourney and even with 3 losses still cash..that is attractive , especially to better players. With elimination , all too often some players have waits of 2 hrs or more between matches, or it may appear they will and the next match or two they are waiting on is played in 1-2 games and now they have a match far earlier than expected.
