Steve Hast: Jason , I havent bought in to the necessity of clocks being required in the Main event.

Steve, you keep doing this -- you twist my words around... this is another red herring. I didn't say they were necessary. In fact, I've *never* said they're necessary. I'll give you a dollar if you can find any place on this forum where I've said clocks are necessary in a backgammon tournament. I'm talking about popularity. Let's look again at what I wrote:

JLee: Hmm, sounds to me like you're arguing that clocks make it easier for you as the director. So what's the hold up? Just admit that you hate clocks, and you're imposing your will on the player in your tournament. This has nothing to do with what the players want. If the players don't like clocks, you'll espouse that for the reason you're not using clocks. If the players want clocks, you'll simply say you don't want clocks, and you think it's a better experience.

So, I'll say it again: I think you just hate clocks, and regardless of what the players think, what you want to do is impose your will on the players -- IN THIS AREA. You're probably flexible and accommodating in many facets of your tournament.

JLee
