My guess is that the fear is that someone may have implemented some software that automatically parses the position and gives instant feedback on the correct play by consulting a bot. Or maybe it just sends the image to a confederate, who texts a reply. Phones can do almost anything nowadays.
Well, I don't remember that being brought up as an issue when the rule was implemented 8-10(?) years ago. It's true that in the very near future this could become more of an issue, though.
I wouldn't be too worried about this happening after all. There aren't many out there who would cheat, and it would be pretty dangerous to have some xg eval pop up on your phone if there are people standing around watching.
Anyway, I wasn't really objecting to the rule, but it's not something I really care much about.
I don't see any advantages to transcribing a match with pen and paper, however.
