If money is not an issue, a good teacher can save you hundreds of hours of study, he can identify and fill holes in your game you might never know you had, and he can give you insights you won't find in books or articles.
I am a full-time, professional teacher, and I have done all this for many students, but if money is not an issue, I certainly am not about to suggest that I am the best choice. In fact, since I have probably worked with and/or taken lessons from more of the top players and teachers in the world than just about anyone, I think I can make some excellent recommendations. Also, some teachers are better at some things than others, and some who might be a great teacher for one person might not be so good for another...so there is certainly some personal preference involved.
I know you could not go wrong with (in no particular order) Nack, Magriel, Stick, O'Hagan, Perry, Kit, Sax, and Mary Hickey (and of course, I include myself on that list). They certainly all know the game and have experience teaching and for a price, they are all available. I am sure there are others but I can't personally speak for their skill, and I apologize if I left someone qualified off the list.
The ONLY reason I would not recommend lessons as a major part of the learning process is cost. (By the way, I know that I, and several of the others named, are sensitive to that issue and willing to work with people who have a strong, earnest desire to learn but cannot afford the full price of the lessons.)
The above is NOT just my opinion. I can provide dozens of testimonials from people who have played and studied the game for years but made huge progress once they took lessons...progress they can prove from PR ratings and tournament results.
