I agree with Timothy's advice. I don't how many times I've quoted David Montgomery:
Here's how you get better: 1) Identify your mistakes. 2) Understand your mistakes. 3) Quit making those mistakes. Repeat as necessary.I think one good way of doing that would be: 1) play two 7-point matches or 5 3-point matches daily. No more than that. That's about 2 hours. 2) analyze and go over those matches move by move. Every move, the ones you got right and the ones you got wrong while playing. Note what you understand and do not understand. File away your errors and test yourself on them from time to time later. That's another 2 hours. 3) For the remaining 2 hours or so of your daily routine, read. Read everything. In your reading, don't rush through problem positions. Figure out what you would do before looking at the solutions. Then puzzle over your mistakes. If you don't understand the solutions, make a note of them and come back to them later. Continue with 1) 2) and 3). Discuss problems with excellent players if you know any. Consider lessons when you feel you can profit from them. And don't do this every day. Vary your routine when it becomes boring. Take a break now and then. Don't burn out.
