almost like a reference position

Also, the alternative play of bar/20 gives White a large number of hitting rolls (White will not be afraid to hit loose)
This. A very large number of hits, 29. 17 sixes + 14 threes, less 6-3 and 3-3, plus 4-4. And as Tim said, after the 7 numbers that don't hit, few numbers (only 6) safety the blot. Your best responses if not hit will be attacking moves. Better to attack now, putting White on the bar, and reducing hitting numbers to 18.
Compare to these altered positions, the first also with 29 hits, the second with 26. In the first you should hit, in the second I would also hit, but it should be a closer decision:
The score (after 0 games) is: White 0, Blue 0 (match to 1 point, post-Crawford play)
Move number 3: Blue to play 41
White 139
Blue 144 Position ID: ZuaMASKM5+ADQA Match ID: cAkmAAAAAAAE The score (after 0 games) is: White 0, Blue 0 (match to 1 point, post-Crawford play)
Move number 3: Blue to play 41
White 137
