Pos 1: 22/15 duplicating 3's and providing additional cover if white hits on the blue 10pt.

Pos 2: Maintaining the race lead with 23/18 10/8 leaves white with the initiative and is very defensive. One could argue for 6/4* 6/1*. A white non-hitting roll is an easy init double imo.
