This is pretty much impossible to analyze OTB. You'd need to count shots, chances of putting two checkers on the bar, etc, and this not only for next turn but also thereafter, and then you need to assess winning chances. And there are many candidates with merits so it becomes a hopeless task for a human being.

OTB I would want to keep my 4 guards back to generate as many as possible hits, and I'd probably play 10/6 5/3 to maximize the chances of picking up the second checker. 10/4 feels wrong because the checker goes to deep.
