Weight of match length in tournament point system

We have started playing tournaments in our local club. I would like to implement a points system so we can have yearly club points standings.
We play playoff type tournaments with 2^n brackes, with byes. Cummulative points are awarded for each win. You get 1 point for each win plus the number of points your opponent had, so for example, the winner of a 4-man tournament gets 3 points.
Generally, the winner of a tournament with m players gets m-1 points. Other players earn points as described above, i.e., you win a match against a player that had 2 points, you add 1 for the win plus 2 from your opponent, plus however many points you had.
The problem is that not all points are worth the same because we will play matches of different lenghts. So a player who wins a tournament of 5-point matches should not get the same number of points as one who wins a tournament of 9 point matches.
The question is what weight to give points for matches of different lenghts.
Pulling an approach out of the air, I am thinking that the points should be proportional to the square root of the match length. So if someone wins a 12 player tournament of 9-point matches, he should get 11 * 3 = 33 points.
Will appreciate your thoughts on a better approach.
