Weight of match length in tournament point system

"Cummulative points are awarded for each win. You get 1 point for each win plus the number of points your opponent had, so for example, the winner of a 4-man tournament gets 3 points."

If in Rd 2 player A who won to get into that round plays player B who got a bye into that round then player B has the chance to win 2 points while player A only has a chance to win 1 point. That disparity can continue into later rounds. Is that desirable?
