Was Sargent really possibly the best player in the world in 1994? I've never heard of him. A similar comment applies to four of the five later named best players.

A game was described where someone was playing againt several players for 50s with the cube on 32 and needing doubles to avoid losing 16000. He gets them to cut his loss to 8000. How does that work?
