Maybe I was a bit hasty, 13/8 13/7 could then also be a good move if the 11 has been made; I am not sure which of the plays is helped more by turning the blot into a point.

The main thing is that splitting to the 18 attacks a blot on the 11, so it becomes more difficult/costly to play constructively elsewhere. Not so if it is a point.
