I'm not going to offer an opinion of a teaching exercise for your nephew specifically, but I will offer up a suggestion on something you should consider in deciding. Find out what your nephew likes, what are his interests? What does he dislike? Math, Art, Music, Games, whatever else. This is important because I have always found that it is easier to teach a subject (like programming) when the person is engaged, and has an interest in the subject matter. If they don't have an interest they may get bored of the exercise and move on. Once you have an idea of his likes and dislikes I'd find problems or exercises that would keep him interested. Since all kids are different, it would be impossible for me to simply throw out an idea with any expectation it would be valid for your nephew.
This is all under the assumption that your nephew actually wants to learn to program.
