ah_clem's point about killing 6's is one that I did not think about when looking at the position. I'm still not sure if it's the key reason to hold the 10pt.
Killing sixes is a double-edged sword - they're killed for white too, so both players are slowed down. I do think slowing down is desirable for blue, since white will be forced to crunch or abandon one of the anchors. It's the part about both players slowing down that makes it less clear cut, and I doubt it's the dominant theme of the position.
I can't really say, and I'll file this under "positions I guessed right for the wrong reason"
