8/5(2) 6/3(2). Next turn, if the 5 point is still open, 3's and 2-1 come up, or up and out. 5's are bad, but they're not better after 8/5(2) 4/1 23/20. White can't make the 5 point cleanly except with 1-1 2-2 3-1 4-1 3-3 3-4 or 4-4 -- 10 numbers.
Why can't Blue play 8/5(2) 4/1 23/20? Because then in addition to 1-1 2-2 3-1 4-1 3-3 4-3 and 4-4, White makes the point with 2-1 3-2 and 4-2, and hits loose with 6-6 6-4 6-3 6-2 6-1 5-4 5-3 5-2 and 5-1. Blue then has few good rolls. Even if the White hasn't made the 5 point, most of Blue's 5's aren't very good because they break the prime and expose another blot or two. So do most of Blue's non-5 entering rolls. Fanning won't win, because White has plenty of time to roll a couple of sixes or aces followed by fives or sixes.
Blue has to hope White doesn't roll any of his great numbers, and then advance his checker. Coming up now won't work. It gives White too many good sequences.
