Although your title suggests that “hit now, ask questions later” is the key to this problem, I like another maxim. “In a holding game, he who breaks anchor first loses” is how I would approach this over the board.

Blue figures to get more direct shots later, perhaps on his next turn. If he hits now, he must leave 4 blots at a time when he is outboarded. One dance on the part of Blue, and White can coast home whacking blots along the way.

Nice problem.
