I'll give it another shot. My question is still does Jason's system have some advantage, other than cleverly setting the average score to zero?
Suppose there are three questions each with three answers and nine test takers. The questions are
Question 1 Question 2 Question 3 A correct A correct A correct B -0.020 B -0.020 B -0.010 C -0.050 B -0.080 C -0.080 For these 27 test takers and their answers:
Answers Score Simple score AAA 0.0866 0.0000 AAB 0.0766 -0.010 BAA 0.0766 -0.010 BAB 0.0666 -0.020 ABA 0.0566 -0.030 ABB 0.0466 -0.040 BBA 0.0466 -0.040 AAC 0.0066 -0.080 ACA 0.0066 -0.080 ACB -0.0034 -0.090 BAC -0.0034 -0.090 ABC -0.0234 -0.110 ACC -0.1836 -0.160 BBB etc. BBC BCA BCB BAC CAA CAB CAC CBA CBB CBC CCA CCB CCC But suppose there are only 10 test takers and their answers are:
Answers Score Simple score AAA 0.052 0.000 AAB 0.042 -0.010 BAA 0.042 -0.010 BAB 0.032 -0.020 ABA 0.022 -0.030 ABB 0.012 -0.040 AAC -0.028 -0.080 ACA -0.028 -0.080 ACB -0.038 -0.090 ACC -0.108 -0.160 Another example: 3 questions, two answers each, 10 test takers:
Question 1 Question 2 Question 3 A correct A correct A correct B -0.010 B -0.050 B -0.080
Answers Score Simple score AAA 0.033 0.000 BAA 0.023 -0.010 BAA 0.023 -0.010 BAA 0.023 -0.010 BAA 0.023 -0.010 BAA -0.023 -0.010 BBA -0.027 -0.060 BBA -0.027 -0.060 AAB -0.047 -0.080 AAB -0.047 -0.080
