Method of scoring a BG quiz

Interesting concepts. If you truly wanted to make this into a great test, there are three things I would consider:
1. You can't skip any question...you must answer each one.
. If it is done electronically, hopefully a bronstein clock could be added--as you know, skill in backgammon is a matter of both knowledge and the ability to use the knowledge in a defined period of time, and;
3. I would ask the participant to put a confidence level number for every one of his answers, and I would weight the grades based on confidence as well as right and wrong answers. Then there needs to be a reward for getting the best answer with a 3 confidence as opposed to getting the best answer with only a 1 or 2, and there needs to be a penalty for getting a wrong answer with a 3 confidence as opposed to getting a wrong answer with a 1 or 2. I might also consider "requiring" that at least 1/4 of the answers have a 3 so that the participant can't just "play safe." This way we are not only testing the player's knowledge, we are testing his confidence in his knowledge and this way we reduce the affect of a "lucky guess" answer.
