Method of scoring a BG quiz

Ok, so the score ranks, but does that matter? If I answer 19 questions and get a zero on one question, that will make my total score either lower or higher than what it would have been if I had answered the question, except for two cases, I think both unlikely, that the sum of my 19 questions was zero, or that I would have gotten a zero if I had answered the question.
If the only purpose of zeroing answers is to allow people to pass on questions, you could get the same result by having the sums of all participants equal the actual amount of equity lost, and assigning a question's average lost equity to an unanswered question. The advantage of the second method is that the score wouldn't be only a number relative to the other people in the pool, but actually reflect your error rate in comparison with the (assumed) perfect judge of the test.
