A 'tie' is a win in these situations so we really need to look at it as such. I don't see the point in continuing the competition when you've already lost. In some team tennis leagues you have 5 courts and to win the match your team needs to win 3 out of 5. In the playoffs it is not uncommon that once a team secures 3/5 matches that the other courts quit if they feel like it. Once there's nothing on the line any more nobody cares and it becomes a waste of time. Like playing poker with nothing at stake.
