OT - Ryder Cup?

There really is no point in running up the score in some US sports. If there wasn't a shot clock in basketball the point difference from the Dream Teams for example would be much lower. Even though there was still a shocking difference I can guarantee you the US played nowhere near 100% in those games for many reasons.
I don't think it's exactly fair to compare sports and then throw in any sort of billiards. By playing full out in pool you aren't risking injury to anyone and you also are more likely than not saving time. That's just not true in things like football or basketball.
As for Christian's statement: For me any competetion is a measurement/comparison of playing strengths. I will try to give my best game and I expect my opponent to do the same. If I were losing bigtime at something, I would be infuriated if my opponent were to concede points/play poorly in order not to beat me too much. I want his best game so I know where I stand compared to him.
If he pulls back because it's not a challenge for him I think you know exactly where you stand. There's a big difference in the way you guys may be viewing it, that your opponent is playing poorly or conceding points, rather than what we're saying ... not running up the score or going full out all the time.
