I mean betting with the bookies, no personal bets. For example, I am pretty sure that for the Ryder cup, you should be able to place bets for the following:

Europe wins

USA wins

Tie

Europe retains Ryder cup

US wins Ryder cup

And that 14-14 would not receive any payment under the Europe wins heading.

I understand what you are saying, that the purpose is to win the cup. I also understand what CMC and I are saying, winning the cup through a win is better than retaining it through a tie.
