First, play safe by making the 10pt. Then there are three reasons why bringing a checker in from the bar point ought to be better than playing inside with the 5:

  1. We can break the bar point next turn if we have to.
     
  2. In case of contact, slotting (and then making) the 2pt is better than making the 1pt.
     
  3. In case of non-contact, our race is better by crossing over, and having a blot on the 2pt.
