Imperfect boards

Given White's strong board I wouldn't think volunteering a shot is the right idea, especially since it's about to crack. Yes, blue's formation is inflexible, but a shot next roll is not nearly as costly as a shot now.
The blot on the 11 is safe for now and clearing the 8 does clear a point. 11/5 8/2 only leaves 34 to hit (1 in 18) and is a bit more flexible, but as I said above, a shot next roll is not so costly. If white's board were not about to crack I'd trade the shots for more flexibility, but I'm going to go with the play that leaves no shots. 8/2 8/6
BTW, volunteering a direct shot seems foolish, but I've been surprised before.
