After playing 11/3, Blue gives White 11 immediate shots. If White misses, then Blue can cover inside (leaving at most an indirect shot outside) with 31 rolls. When Blue rolls 61, 64 or 66, however, he is forced to leave a direct shot.

When Blue lifts the 8pt on this turn, he is completely safe. On the following turn, however, 62 and 65 force him to leave a direct shot.

Although my initial intuition was to pay now, and I may be painting myself into a corner, I’ll try paying later.
