Well, if that's what he was saying, then he was wrong. No, I don't mean that people really think that the Elo system was invented by the Electric Light Orchestra specifically as opposed to some other entity or person. I mean that I know from experience that writing ELO does confuse people. I hear people all the time talking about the "ee-el-oh" system, for example. It can't possibly help to write ELO and it sometimes hurts.
Alternatively, if the point is that making an effort to ensure that credit is properly assigned is not worth it, then I disagree as well.
