Let's compare this to the following positions:

There with our 4pt made it is correct to split, not to run. What are the differences? White has two checkers back, so race is even; this speaks for running. On the other hand, if we play passively now, almost any roll for white works pretty well next turn; this speaks for splitting thus trying to fight for initiative.

I don't know which play is right here; I would not be surprised if they are close.
