DQ: Coming in against a backgame

I'd play 8/4 8/6 here. I don't want to blot when White's board is stronger, so better blot now. This is a common theme, volunteer to break early against overtime backgames so that hits come when your opp is not yet ready to contain you (and when you still have a few spares to play with in case of bad rolls).
On your other question, I don't believe there is a good source. I think there are different phases/themes in playing against a backgame, and these are not comprehensively covered in one place.
- Formative phases - timing / over-timing / priming (this is an area without good fixed rules, sometimes you want to send back, sometimes not, sometimes you want to block, sometimes not, etc). - Squeezing of anchors - Bearing in - Bearing off - placement of spares
Then there are the different backgames with different characteristics based on the number and location of the anchors held, whether or not there is an escape valve, the place where a prime containing any hit checkers will be constructed.
And to make it more difficult, score considerations.
Backgames are one of the areas where I am weak myself, so hopefully you can share any good sources that you can find...
