Others have already mentioned the importance of the blot on the 9pt if you run. I wanted to re-emphasize this with a few second roll decisions where the same theme is reflected. Assume your opponent splits with an opening 51 and you reply with a 62 or a 63. What's the right play? If you know this and the reasoning behind it it is applicable to this problem also.

If instead the opponent had played an opening 41 or 32 by making the donk move of 13/8 and you again replied with a 62 or 63 you will notice that the splitting play is either best or much closer than the other scenario. (even given that there's now four checkers on your opp's 8pt so staying on the 18pt isn't in general as desirable)
