They also use Chess FIDE Elo rating system so you can't play rated matches with guys 100+ points below you since you'll lose 20 rating points on a loss and gain zero on a win...I'm pretty sure Gridgammon uses a slightly different (and more accurate for BG in my opinion) Elo system.

This is not true, chess fide elo rating system and BG rating systems are the same, only difference is K factor and ramp issue... In chess they use K factor depending on experience and rating whereas in BG we use in square root of match length multiplied by 5 (except in live federations of denmark and japan where they use pure match length as K factor).
