It shouldn't be hard to approximate what the average PR of almost 200 pts lower rated group of players should be. If you apply your method to 1 player, you are likely to get a wrong result. Mochy is around 1900 on GridGammon. If I apply your method, the result would be that he plays around 5 PR. Perhaps better statement would be "This player's PR is probably between X and Y"
This is true, but I have troubles with this statement of yours: "He is better than the average of your opponents." . I am not only looking at his current rating, I know rating swings can be huge. I just find it hard to believe that a 6.X (or better) player (as you claim) would not be able to reach a better top rating than low 1700 after almost 4000 experience. You say Mochy is 1900 at the moment, but his top rating is 2000+, while his opponent's top rating is only low 1700. Huge difference, imo. I think you might be overestimating his skill. And since he is a member of your team you might be a little bit biased. :) There are some other possible factors, maybe he doesn't take his friendly matches seriously, maybe he used to play on Grid long time ago and is now much better etc. But from what I've seen I highly doubt that he is only 3 or 4 PR worse than Mochy. Btw, even if we accept that the PR diff. is only 3-4 the three positions I posted are still interesting and worth looking at.
