The main problem with taking even gammonish cubes against fish opponents when you know they will play it out 'suboptimally' is that, and I'm generalizing, fish over blitz. Guess what ... they should be over blitzing. So even though they may be getting dinged by XG for making moves that are too blitz orientated I believe their errors may not even be errors. Their gammon value is greater than XG assumes, their gammons lost are not as costly, and we may not be as quick to raise the cube to 4 against a weaker opponent further allowing them to stay in the game longer than XG v. XG would.
