I think you're both right. The race lead is big enough in a clean position such as the one you suggested but since we have the blots to clean up which causes us a shade of discomfort it may be best to take a roll. You gave a good example of the race remaining the same and it being a proper cube (though making the 7pt was certainly a plus) and you can look at it from Christian's point of view and take the spare on the midpoint and put it on the 4pt gaining the doubler 9 pips but still leaving his position temporarily messy. This would have to be a monster double due to the race now.
