I agree with Ian and David that OTB, I would split without much thought. However, Neil has expressed strong arguments for two down. This problem is an example of natural OTB play which may not be best. These plays are important for the expert player in his attempts to become world class. Although interesting, I am more concerned about silly OTB blunders which plague me. If I can rid myself of these plays, I would concentrate more on the intricacies of this checker problem.
