In Response To: nice racing lead what now (konstantin)

I see three candidates, 17/15 17/13, 8/6 8/4, and 6/4 6/2.

17/15 17/13 clears the most troublesome point, but leaves the most shots, and creates a blot that may not be easy to clean up even if it's missed. With White's powerful four-point board, it looks pretty risky.

8/6 8/4 has the big advantage of leaving no shots. It does create an ugly stack on the 6pt and is not very flexible. In particular, it doesn't do anything to solve Blue's problem of getting his outfield checkers around, and actually removes the 8pt, which might be a useful stepping-stone.

6/4 6/2 leaves 11 shots but unstacks the 6pt, and if Blue is missed, he has quite a few good rolls that attack White's blot or make a four-point board.

Difficult decision. I dislike 17/15 17/13 the most because breaking our rearmost point in a mutual holding game, when not forced to, is rarely right. Between 8/6 8/4 and 6/4 6/2 I'm not sure. I guess I play 8/6 8/4 on the grounds that White's board must be respected, and volunteering 11 shots when it doesn't necessarily solve our problems seems a bit much.
