We don't need a shot next roll and we're hardly set up to contain a blot next roll anyway, and even if we did and we were, advancing the anchor would hardly make it more likely that we get an shot soon.
Since we're behind in the race, we need to eventually hit to win, so we need to try to make things difficult for Stick as he bears in. And that means that advancing our anchor with 22/21(2) is quite the Wrong Idea. That play gets rid of the one single most awkward spot in Stick's game -- his empty point in front of our anchor -- and will make it easier for Stick to play behind our anchor once our lonely blot on our 23 point is taken care of.
And advancing our spare checker 23/21 is also the Wrong Idea for much the same reason. That play will let Stick play otherwise awkward rolls safely behind us to his deuce and ace points.
And any play with 23/22 but without 23/21, besides seeming Thematically Wrong, looks plain strange to me.
Which leaves 8/4, which starts a point we need to make, and seems more productive and less awkward than 8/7 8/5 or 8/7(2) 5/4(2). Down 75 pips, we have, unfortunately, all the time in the world to continue building our board as we wait patiently for a shot from our 22-point anchor.
Vote: 8/4.
