Your play of 5/4 is better than the 3/2 I suggested in my initial post.

In part, this is because in many variations, Yellow will not hit a shot next turn, and will also not want to break outside. After moving 6/1 5/4 this turn, Yellow can hold on to his 6pt and both his outside points when he rolls 42 41 32 31 or 21 on his following turn. The other choices, 6/1 3/2 and 6/1 2/1, do not do as well, especially when Yellow rolls a 4 next time.

Another reason 5/4 is better is because a subsequent roll of 4 will add a new point point to Yellow’s inner board. After one of the alternatives, a roll of 4 would merely switch points (at best).
