"Don't volunteer a shot in a holding game" is the conventional wisdom and I fail to see why it would not apply here. Especially since white's board is only going to get weaker.

The question then becomes whether to clear the 8 or the 7 point. Clearing the 8 gives a better distribution for the bearoff, while clearing the 7 leaves no homeboard blots which provides less incentive for white to simply run off the anchor.

I don't like the gap, so I'll clear the 8, but I'm far from sure it's right.
