After scratching last time, i will answer me some questions.
(1) Shots? A play that pays now shouldn’t leave much more than a single direct shot.
(2) Opponent’s board strength? It is only really bad to be hit if opponent can easily contain the checker. If opp’s oard has a blot, or a high open point, we should often volunteer the shot.
(3) Is Opp’s position improving or deteriorating? If White’s game is improving, we’d rather pay now, before his structure gets even more dangerous. If his game is likely to deteriorate, we’d rather wait and play safe.
(4) Is playing safe constructive or destructive? A safe play which actually improves our position will almost always dominate any play that leaves a blot.
We leave only 5 shots, Opp can easily contain the checker, he can hold his position and the safe play is destructive.
I will pay now. 13/4.
