In Response To: Explain Jacoby paradox (leobueno)

Blue has two ways to win: (1) by bearing off both of his Blue checkers now or (2) by White failing to get off on his turn. However the second path to victory is not available to Blue if he redoubles because White will simply rerecube and claim the game. Owning the cube has some value.

But the value of cube ownership is less in Position 2. White wins almost all the time anyway, so having access to the cube doesn't mean as much.

This is Blue's last chance to double. That means he can double with very low equity. It just happens that in Position 1 the value of owning the cube outweighs the small equity increase Blue gets by doubling, but not in Position 2.
