In Response To: recent American Football situation -- OT (Chuck Bower)

If you pass twice for the endzone you have risks and gains. You risk 10 to 14 seconds of clock time, being intercepted (the defense will know what you are doing and play extra defensive backs and not worry about intermediate and short passes), and being sacked, which could cost the field goal. Your gains if you make a touchdown are huge. You will only need a field goal to tie and the defense will have to protect against passes that would get you into and field goal range and those that would result in a touchdown. This should make both easier to accomplish. For that reason, I would pass twice, even if I knew the field goal was 100%, which it is far from.
