Golomb ruler

Something else just occurred to me, which I don't think I've mentioned before in this forum. Blue's 6/4/1 structure forms a Golomb ruler. This means that any single number plays safely. So the only way to blot is if you're forced to take two checkers off a stack of height 3, or possibly if you roll certain doublets.

The 6/4/1 structure is the only "perfect" Golomb ruler in backgammon, but you can use a similar principle in other positions where you have a few tall stacks with gaps in between. Namely, first check to see which individual numbers you can play safely. If they all play safely then you can quickly identify your identify your potential blotting numbers without having to go through all 21 rolls.
