I disagree. I have found that giving objective measures of luck reduces (quite markedly) the likelihood that players will perceive the dice as being biased.
My experience with large numbers of social players on SHG and MSN gaming zone, doing dice studies, talking about luck with casual players suggest the opposite. I think we will have to agree to disagree on that point. Most causal players I have met don't have an understanding of statistics, so you could talk until your blue in the face, and if they have a perception about luck, it is not likely you will change it with numbers. Social players want to feel like they are accomplishing something, and in Backgammon they seem to think games should end closer (and not lopsided - which occurs with doubles/luck).
