Are people who play with non-precision 6 sided dice from their D&D set playing Backgammon?

I see what you're trying to do there. The implication is that I'm trying to paint some picture that people who are not playing with precision dice bought from Carol Cole and using an Excalibur Game Time II clock with their Brahma board are not playing backgammon. I'm not some kind of ivory tower backgammon elitist.
