The point is of course that a lot of typical D&D dice totally suck when it comes to being random. I did an experiment many years ago with such dice, and it didn't huge samples to see the p-values for the data point fall into the danger zone (consistently well below 1%). Playing Backgammon with such dice, could in effect make a player believe he is playing Backgammon when he's not. This assumes that playing Backgammon requires perfectly weighted dice.
I should point out on SHG, the issues there were not noticed for over a year, and no one was the wiser until Neil Robbins tossed the matches in XG. People believed they were playing Backgammon. What they didn't know didn't hurt them. And I think that is what annoyed a lot of experts. They had NO idea.
